2014 Coca Cola Games

TWENTY-two records were broken on day one of the 2014 Coca-Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday. Nineteen individual records and three relay records were shattered and more expected to fall on the final day today. The major highlight was the junior boys’ shot put and sub junior boys’ events. Josefa Matau broke the 16-year-old record in the sub junior boys’ long jump event after managing a distance of 5.35 metres. The Natabua High School athlete broke the old record of 5.35m set by Iftekar Ahmed of Nadi Muslim. In the junior boys’ shot put event, Sailosi Falewai of Queen Victoria School broke a 21-year-old record with a throw of 16.56m to shatter the old record of 15.68m set by Jone Cavubati. At the end of the two day competition, Marist Brothers’ High School and Jasper Williams went on to win the overall boys and girls titles respectively.
